Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tbsp garlic (about three cloves)
- 1/2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp dried basil
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1 15 oz can crushed tomatoes
Instructions
In a small saucepan heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and salt, stirring to coat, and caramelize for about 7 minutes. Add garlic and continue to caramelize, for another 2 minutes. Add tomato paste, herbs, and pepper flakes, stirring to coat the onions fully.
Add your crushed tomatoes and bring to a light boil before reducing heat-- simmer for another 15 to 20 minutes on low. Add more salt and pepper to taste.
